MOUNTLAKE TERRACE, Wash. – January 26, 2006 – How many eight-year old boys start their countdown to Christmas, not with their own wish list but by thinking of how they can help children who are less fortunate? And then actually go out and do something about it?
Colin Sapp is one such local eight-year old who was so affected by learning of local children who would not get a visit from Santa Claus no matter how good they were that he asked his father, CEO of the e-commerce mortgage lender MILA Inc., Layne Sapp, if he could do something about it.
“MILA has long-supported the Forgotten Children’s Fund and when my son told me he wanted to help in that effort this year, I simply beamed with pride,” explained Sapp Senior. “What father wouldn’t?”
So Santa Claus arrived at 779 Seattle area homes this past Christmas and left gifts for 2,808 children who otherwise might have gotten little or nothing this year. Thanks in-part to eight-year old Colin Sapp who saw the sea of cubicles at his father’s Mountlake Terrace office not as just a place of work but as the best place for a young door-to-door salesman. Carting cookies and juice to MILA’s 670 employees, Colin raised more than $500 and was able to present the check to the Forgotten Children’s fund in a mini-check presentation event held at a Seattle fundraising event.
Forgotten Children’s volunteers raise money and purchase, wrap, and give Christmas gifts to needy children. Families selected receive winter coats and toys in addition to food and utility expenses. There are no administrative costs or paid staff. All money collected goes to children and families not assisted by other organizations. Because of purchasing relationships built with suppliers, each dollar buys triple the amount collected.
